Does Getting Braces Hurt

Getting braces could be troublesome for many people for a start. The main reason behind this is that the metal wires need to get accustomed to the mouth. The inside of the cheeks and also the gums are too sensitive in the beginning to the wires. Sometimes there could be some protrusions which may hurt the mouth once in a while. Different people experience different kinds of problems. Getting braces do hurt for some and they don’t for others.

Some people advice a Tylenol in case they sense any pain in the beginning. Usually, patients say they sense some kind of pain or discomfort for the first four to five days and then slowly the pain or discomfort wears off. More or less it’s just the same like getting a root canal treatment. There is discomfort for at least a week once the cap is placed and then slowly you start getting accustomed to it. The same case follows here with braces.

When the new braces are placed, sometimes they rub against the inside of the cheeks and create soreness. Most people even say they haven’t had much pain except for some kind of discomfort. They even play musical instruments soon after getting their braces which means, there is not much to worry about.

So, depending on the intensity of the problem different people have different experiences. There are even cases when people are not able to chew anything solid for the first month and have to eat semi-liquid food. Most of the times, when the patient has to visit the dentist for tightening the braces, there is a lot of pain during these visits.

Different people have different experiences, but on an average most of them experience some kind of discomfort or pain while getting braces on their teeth. The pain is worth the experience for the good results braces bring.
