The Interesting Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are a type of dental braces that are truly interesting. It performs the same function as the traditional braces of straightening teeth and correcting other teeth and jaw abnormalities but at the same time they are quite different from traditional braces. These lingual braces also consists of wires and brackets the same as that used for traditional braces but the big difference is that traditional braces are attached at the front of the teeth while lingual braces are attached at the back of the teeth.

Lingual braces are the best option for people who hate the idea of smiling with all that metal glinting on their mouth. In truth, lingual braces are chosen because of its aesthetic value. Since lingual braces are attached at the back of the teeth, they are almost invisible. Unless you bandy the news around that you are wearing braces, people will not have a clue that you are wearing one.

But there are disadvantages in wearing lingual braces. Since the braces are worn at the back of the teeth, it can become very uncomfortable particularly in the early days after it is installed on the teeth. The risk of tangling the tongue with the braces that can cause cuts is very possible. Soreness and swelling of the tongue can also be experienced that will cause a lot of discomfort. One way of lessening the discomfort is to swallow without pressing the tongue against the lower teeth and to use wax to coat the braces when the tongue is too sore. Some people also find speaking clearly difficult or even develop a slight lisp because of the inability to press the tongue against the back of the teeth while speaking. But as the wearer gets more used to the device, all these difficulties will slowly fade.
